Celebrate Independence Day with a great bike ride. This Saturday the United We Ride team presents the 3rd Annual Freedom Ride, a cancer benefit for Livestrong and Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

This ride begins in Independence and offers numerous distance options on the Little Blue Trace Trail or the country roads of northeast Jackson County. Be sure to stick around for the after party at La Bella Winery near Wellington, MO.

Want more trails? Then ride the City of Fountains Bicycle Tour

These days there is a charity bike ride for every conceivable cause, yet the City of Fountains Bicycle Tour is one of the few rides that supports bicycling itself. It raises money for Friends of Trails KC to help build and maintain the Trails KC network.

Not only does the ride support the great cause of bicycling, it’s a great way to discover your city. The ride’s several route options tour the city’s iconic fountains and some its most lovely and historic neighborhoods. The KC Bicycle Club provides their famous SAG support with delicious treats along the way.

Cranksgiving this Sunday

The annual Alleycat race to stock local food bank shelves is coming up again this Sunday. The ride is free, just bring your messenger bags, panniers, and even cargo trailers. You’ll get a list of stores to visit, with free beer and chilli at the finish.

Weekend rides: BikeMO and Northland Nightmare

On Saturday BikeMO is Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation’s annual fund raising ride through the rolling hills of rural Mid-Missouri. It’s a great ride that raises money for MoBikeFed’s state-wide mission of education and advocacy. The 9:00 a.m. start time makes doable for a day trip from KC.

On Sunday closer to home KCBC presents the annual Northland Nightmare ride, this time featuring the fall colors of the Northland’s rolling hills. As always, KCBC’s famous SAG service will be in full effect.

Octoginta and KC Sprints in Lawrence this weekend

This weekend roadie and hipster cultures will collide in Lawrence, KS! Our neighbors to the west are once again doing Octoginta, the Lawrence Bicycle Club’s huge end-of-season road ride. This year they have big addition to the schedule, our very own KC Sprints crew will be putting on some pre-Octoginta roller races Friday night at the Replay Lounge.

Tour de BBQ
The Tour de BBQ had a huge turnout of almost 2,000 cyclists on Saturday, and KC Beer Blog has a great recap from a casual cyclist’s point of view. Congrats to everyone who rode to raise money for the Livestrong Army of KC.
