Tour de BBQ
The Tour de BBQ had a huge turnout of almost 2,000 cyclists on Saturday, and KC Beer Blog has a great recap from a casual cyclist’s point of view. Congrats to everyone who rode to raise money for the Livestrong Army of KC.

Boss Cross
Results from this weekend’s Boss Cross cyclocross races are online line now. It sounds like E.H. Young Riverfront Park in Riverside was a great venue. Roger Harrison has lots of photos of Boss Cross.

The City’s Bike KC program has some photos of the recent City of Fountains Bicycle Tour . The Kansas City Bicycle Club reported a record 300-plus people participated, raising lots of money for Friends of Trails and Friends of Fountains.

Google’s Street View camera caught this cyclist on North Oak at North Cherry. This spot is just north of the In-a-Tub restaurant, which is appropriate since they sponsor a race team.

Some photos from Kansas City’s first Tweed Ride on April 3rd, 2010. Organizer Mark Rainey told me that they counted at least 120 riders, a great turnout for a first-time event!

Noah reviews the Swobo Baxter, a Tank 7 transporter

Local bike commuter Noah has a cool review of the Swobo Baxter for Bikecommuters.com, and it appears to be a great vehicle for transporting bottles of Boulevard’s Smokestack Series.

ASB Underpass Photos

MoBikeFed has some photos of yesterday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new ASB Underpass on the Riverfront Heritage Trail. There was a huge turnout despite the sketchy weather. In addition to dozens of cyclists, there were lots of politicos like former mayor Dick Berkley and Councilmembers Terry Riley, Deb Hermann, John Sharp, and Cathy Jolly.

Mayor Funkhouser gave a great speech highlighting the importance of bicycle and pedestrians facilities in providing transportation options to Kansas Citians, as well as recruiting and retaining the talented workforce that our needs to compete in the 21st century.

The city continues to install new U-Racks around the Downtown Loop, using the design that originated on 12th Street back in 2007. The newest racks are along Broadway between the Quality Hill and Garment District neighborhoods, between 8th and 12th Streets. I have also heard that the Power & Light District recently added more racks to accommodate heavy demand.
