Commuter Convoy

Kris Kristofferson and Alli McGraw learned in the 1970s that sometimes you have to band together to survive out there on streets. That lesson holds true for bicyclists as well as truckers. Local commuter Noah is organizing a convoy of bike commuters to join him once a week on his commute from Johnson [...]

More Census Thoughts

Paul Dorn has more thoughts on the new bike commute data from the US Census Bureau.
The U.S. Census consistently undercounts bicyclists; for example counting multimodal (bike/transit) as one “journey to work” mode, typically the longer mode. The Census also ignores non-work trips, which are the majority of all trips.

The US Census Bureau has just released a survey of American commuting habits, and the data for bicycle commuting in KC is pretty bad. Kansas City ranks dead last in bike commuting. 50th place out of 50 cities. The survey counted a paltry 50 bike commuters among KCMO’s 216,000 workers, which rounds to [...]

As reported here earlier, the city of Olathe, KS is preparing to widen 2 miles of 127th Street from Mur-Len to Pflumm. The city took a proactive stance and included bike lanes in this project. Unfortunately those bike lanes have drawn the ire of residents along 127th who are opposed to the road [...]
