The Missouri Bicycle Federation just released a “report card” on bicycling conditions in the Show-Me State. Our state’s overall grade is a disappointing D, but we did score better in many of the individual subjects.  And many initiatives are underway to raise that grade in the future.
“The overall grade for Missouri’s walking and bicycling environment […]

A group of about 30 bicyclists rode to Friday’s ceremonies to mark the beginining of construction on the new Paseo Bridge. Here are some photos on Flickr and Mark Breeding has many more.

The Pitch covers the attemp to pass a Complete Streets bill in Missouri, and MoDOT’s last-minute move to kill the bill that they earlier supported.
The Pitch: MoDOT tosses cyclists over the handlebars
A great way to show MoDOT some love is to ride with us to the Paseo Bridge groundbreaking ceremony on Friday. If you can’t […]

Route 45 open house

This week MoDOT will hold a public hearing on their plan to widen Route 45 through Parkville (a.k.a. NW 64th Street or Tom Watson Parkway). Right now the plan is very inadequate for bicyclists and pedestrians.  Parts of it are down-right unsafe. If you live, work, or ride in the Northland, please take half an […]

On Friday, April 18 Senater Kit Bond and MoDOT will have a groundbreaking for the new Paseo bridge. If you can spare half an hour on a Friday afternoon, please go and attend the ceremony as a visible reminder that bicyclists and pedestrians are still fighting for a path on the new bridge. I am […]

Northland Representative Trent Skaggs is sponsoring HB 2572, which would allow voters in Jackson, Clay, […]

The Missouri Bicycle Federation is working to bring bicycle-themed license plates to Missouri.  In addition to raising $5,000 for the state application fee, we also have to come up with a design that conveys our Share the Road message. Eventually proceeds from the license plates will go to sustain MoBikeFed’s education and outreach programs.
If you […]

Great letter to the editor

Many may know or have seen local cyclist Karta Purkh Khalsa. Last month he had a great letter to the editor published in the KC Star. Here it is:

Kansas City Star

AS I SEE IT: Riding a bike is lifetime thrill
I must be honest and state initially that I am an unabashed bicycle […]

Pedicabs approved!

Today the full City Council approved the pedicab ordinance.  The city is also fast-tracking the licensing process so that they can be up and running during the Big 12 tournament next week.
We might have even turned around Councilmember Jan Marcason. I’m in DC for the National Bike Summit, but my spies tell me that Jan […]

Today the City Council’s Transportation Committee endorsed a plan to legalize pedicabs in KCMO. Unfortunately the owners of the Country Club Plaza where able to get Councilmember Jan Marcason to carve out an exception for the Plaza. So pedicabs could soon be legal everywhere but the city’s most popular tourist neighborhood.
Please take a few minutes […]
