COMMUTER CHALLENGE 2007

The Challenge

The Goal

The goal of Bike to Work Week and the Commuter Challenge is to get as many people to try bicycle commuting as possible. In the process we hope everyone has fun and enjoys a good-natured competition.

How To

You can participate with a team or solo. Many people form teams at their workplace, or with a club or other ad hoc group of people that work different places. Once you start biking to just come back to this web site to log your miles. We automatically calculate all of the rankings in real time.

The Rules

We will be ranking teams and individuals on several scales. The overall top team prize will go to the team with the most miles. Winners of the individual categories will also receive prizes. The Commuter Challenge mostly runs on an honor system, but we do ask for your home and work ZIP codes in case of a dispute.

While the Commuter Challenge is geared towards biking to work, we also include folks who walk, ride the bus, or carpool. Bus and carpool miles are counted at 50%. Rankings in the non-bike categories are determined by the number of trips made, not the miles travelled, so be sure to log each roundtrip separately.

The Prizes

This year we have bigger and better prizes than ever, including a fully-equipped commuter bike courtesy of the Trek Store of KC and Bridging the Gap. Perhaps the most exciting news is that The Pitch and Boulevard Brewing Company will host the Commuter Challenge wrap-up party at their newly expanded facility on Southwest Boulevard. If free beer can't motivate you to get on your bike, then I don't know what can! Here is a full list of prizes with photos.

Who is Doing This?

Bridging the Gap's Clean Commute program is organizing the overall Bike to Work Week, along with several organizations and individuals. Several local bike shops and other businesses are sponsors.
