The Trek Store of Kansas City is the latest local bike shop to expand in recent months. The Shawnee store’s new Independence location is at the southeast corner of East 39th Street and 291 Hwy, in a small strip mall on the Sears end of the Independence Center shopping mall.
While it’s great see the local bike industry continue to grow even during the Great Recession, this new store might be the least bikeable of any local bike shop. Even though it’s only about a mile from the Little Blue Trace Trail, it’s not easy to bike to the location at the intersection of two highways and a six lane arterial road.
