Safe passing laws run into headwinds in both state capitals

This year 3-foot passing laws have been proposed in both the Missouri General Assembly and the Kansas Legislature, but so far both are facing a tough road.

Missouri’s HB 33 is currently stuck in committee, having had a public hearing but note getting enough votes to pass out of committee.

Meanwhile, Kansas’ HB 2174 made it out of committee, but as Kansas Cyclist reports, it was ultimately defeated by just four votes in the full House of Representatives.

These things often take a few attempts before they succeed, and require persistent communication from cyclists to their state legislators. This is only the first attempt a 3 foot passing law in Kansas, and the second in Missouri. Cyclists in Missouri have a great opportunity in April to attend Bicycle and Pedestrian Day at the Capitol and ride the Katy Trail with state legislators.

I don’t think the link to the Kansas Cyclist is correct. It’s currently linking to the Missouri House website as the first link does.
