Kansas City has long been fascinated with the world of competitive biking–for a time Lance Armstrong’s giant image loomed over the Plaza, and there was serious regret when it was announced the Tour of Missouri would no longer be wending its way through city streets. But cycling in the region is not, of course, usually an activity for the elite athlete. Biking is something adults and children do for fitness, fun and friendship. And this sort of biking is alive and well in Kansas City. Today, KCUR’s Dan Verbeck talks with several local leaders of community bike rides about the state of cycling in the city. They’ll talk about the basics of getting started with biking, where to ride on your own, what groups meet regularly to ride in the community, and how anyone can get involved.
