MO Tourism Director Katie Steele Danner will be on the radio on Tuesday morning to talk about the Division of Tourism’s budget, including the Tour of Missouri. This might be one of the last times we get a public forum on this issue, and it doesn’t appear that there will be any pro-Tour guests – so let’s light up the phone lines.

The official line is that they want to use the $1 million Tour of Missouri funds on other Tourism priorities. Since we know the Tour of Missouri has more than 30-1 Return on Investment – the question is what is the ROI for the other ways they would spend the money.

As someone who voted for Governor Nixon in the last election, I can firmly say that he will lose my vote in the next if he does end up killing the Tour of Missouri. It’s amazing to me that this is even a problem, given the Tour’s outstanding showing here. $38 million in economic impact for a $1.5 million investment last year? Certainly seems like a no-brainer to me!
Also, does anyone else find it ironic that the pro-bike race people in government are Republicans, and the anti-bike race folks are Democrats? Is this bizzarro world?!
