Missouri House considers 3 foot passing law

This week the Missouri House of Representatives will consider a bill to establish a 3 foot passing law, requiring motorists to move over 3 feet when passing bicyclists.  The insurance industry killed the last attempt to do this in 2005, but hopefully it will go better this year.

There will be a hearing in the Transportation Committee on Tuesday. The only KC area Representatives on the committee are Gary Dusenberg of Blue Springs and bicyclist Tom McDonald of Independence.

Current Missouri law mandates a safe passing distance, but doesn’t specify how much is enough.

The Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation has all the details.
