Several local Democratic state legislators have signed a letter asking Governor Jay Nixon to support funding for the Tour of Missouri in 2010.

- Representative Paul LaVote of Independence, House Minority Leader
- Rep. Jason Grill of Parkville
- Rep. Tom McDonald of Independence
Unfortunately the tour has become a bit of a partisan hot potato. The Tour’s chief promoter is Republican Lt. Governor Pete Kinder, who is seen as a potential opponent for Democratic Governor Jay Nixon in 2012. Despite a history of being bicycle-friendly, Governor Nixon’s support of the Tour of Missouri has been viewed as reluctant by many.
