Back in December of 2007 we reported on a 3.5 mile extension of the Little Blue Trace Trail from 39th and Selsa in Independence to I-470 south of I-70. After some delay the project has finally been approved by the Independence City Council. Construction is slated for fall of this year. An additional project will build a short connection from the Little Blue Trace to Waterfall Park, which is adjacent to the new Bass Pro Shop.
The Little Blue Trace Trail will ultimately extend all the way to Longview Lake on the Kansas City/Lee’s Summit border. KC recently allocated funds to begin their end of the trail, so hopefully in a few years the two trails will meet up for a continuous corridor from Longview to the Missouri River.
The council also approved a small segment the Rock Creek Trail, which will someday extend east-west along the length of the city.
Independence Examiner: Trail Expansion Projects Approved.
