Bikes are key to future of Burlington corridor in NKC

North Kansas City is planning for the future of the Burlington Street, and one of their main goals is to make the corridor safer and more accessible for bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit users. The Burlington/North Oak corridor is one of the metro area’s primary north/south arteries, so it is great news that it might become more friendly in the future.

The plan calls for transforming this gritty industrial corridor into a more mixed-use community with better transportation options.  In addition to dedicated bicycle paths on or adjacent to Burlington, the plan also includes upgrades for bicyclists and pedestrians. The new emphasis on multi-modal transportation comes at a great time, since the new bike/ped path on the Heart of America Bridge will feed right into Burlington.  The corridor will also be central to a planned MAX bus rapid transit line along North Oak.

North Kansas City’s new vision is very similar to plans in Kansas City and Gladstone to make their portions of the Burlington/North Oak corridor.
