The KC Bicycle Club sends this notice about a local cyclist who was recently involved in a serious crash and needs some help as he returns home from rehab…
Subject: Assistance for Doug Beisel
KCBC folks, Many, most, all of you may have heard about Doug Beisel’s recent serious bike riding accident. There isn’t space here for all the details, but he broke several bones and needs a lot of time to recuperate. His friends in the Prairie Village Yacht Club are doing what they can to help him reconfigure his house while he convalesces. They need monetary assistance. Please see below for details on the assistance they’re providing Doug. The Yacht Club folks asked that these messages get out to riders around the area. Feel free to directly contact Rich Davis. I just returned from spending an hour and a half with Doug at Creekside.
He is feeling good, he is in good spirits and said to tell everyone
hello for him. He is also very agreeable to let people help him now and
he said to pass that along to everyone and how much he appreciates all
of the offers to do things for him. He said the cat issue was a worry
to him, so I don’t know where that stands. He said there are probably
some bills that need to be paid, so does anyone know who is getting his
mail. He told me to get the house key from whoever has it and I will
meet the utility companies along with my electricians and plumbers to
get the utilities going as he will need A/C when he gets home. He said
he wants a ramp built at his front door, so I took measurements of his
wheel chair to make sure it will fit through the front door. The wheel
chair he has is his to keep, so we should be safe with the size of it.
If it won’t fit through the front door, I will modify the door frame so
it will fit. I will go by his house and try to lay out a ramp of some
description that will work for him. The lady in charge at Creekside
told me Doug will be there through Monday or longer. That is all I know
for now. If we spend $1,000 getting him situated, that is only $20 for
50 of us and I know we have that many people willing to help. Thanks,
Dean HugginsIf everyone is agreeable, I will volunteer to be the collector of money for
Doug. I will be at the Moose tonight so if you want to contribute see me
after the ride.If you are not riding but want to donate money for Doug Beisel you can also mail it to me. Please feel free to forward this message on to friends of Doug that may not be on the PVYC Yahoo group site.
