Today the KCMO City Council’s Planning and Zoning Committee approved a new development code that includes bicycle parking requirements. This would mean most new businesses and apartments would have to provide parking for customers, employees, tenants, and visitors.

It is anticipated that the full City Council might vote on April 30th, and the law will be phased in over the next year. This will be a huge step forward for Kansas City. Bike-friendly cities like Chicago and Denver started with bike parking, and things like trails and bike lanes soon followed.
