MoDOT is working on an environmental study for the proposed rebuilding of I-70 in Jackson County. While I-70 itself is not a route for bicyclists, there are numerous streets that cross the highway and will be impacted by its reconstruction.
It is important that bicyclists and pedestrians speak up during the planning process. We need to be asking for sidewalks on both sides of bridges over the highway, room for future bike lanes over the highway, minimizing conflicts with entrance and exit ramps, and the preservation of bike/ped travel across the highway during construction.
