As you might have heard, the Car-Free Challenge has gone year-round. Last month 59 people logged over 4,000 miles traveled by bike, bus, or foot. Each month we hold a random drawing for prizes, and July’s winner was Jason Brown. Jason actually went almost entirely car-free in July, logging over 1000 miles! For his effort Jason received a new messenger bag from Green Guru, courtesy of the City of KCMO and the Mid-America Regional Council. Make sure to log your miles this month, because another prize drawing is just around the corner.
Name: Jason brown
Where do you live? Lenexa,KS
Where do you work? University of Kansas Medical Center
Briefly describe the route you take to get to work: 87th / Santa Fe down through Prairie Village and Mission Hills.
What is your commuter bike like? A Trek Soho 4.0. It has a back rack and I just recently added Shimano PD-M324 SPD Pedals. This bike has been a blast to ride. I’m very fortunate and blessed to have this bike. Back in April my Trek 7.2 FX was stolen and my Uncle and a few cousins helped cover the cost.
How long have you been commuting on your bike, and how did you get started? A year ago I bought a bike to ride in the KC MS-150 and used it to commute with 2 or 3 times. This past May I participated in bike to work week and wanted to continue through the summer.
What facilities does your employer provide, if any? None. Well, I have been encouraged by our fitness center to use my money saved in gas to buy a membership for shower use.

We are so proud of you Jason …..You are a true BUFFALO…Roll on HOSS…..
you are an inspiration to everyone, you have more willpower and determination than anyone i have ever met. I am proud to call you my friend……..
I agree, you are quite the buffalo…you plowed through all circumstances in July and stuck through it. Congrats on your great accomplishment!!
So, the part that was left out of this article is what a flat out phenomenal guy Jason Brown is. As my husband mentioned above, Jason is an inspiration to everyone. You are an incredible person and a great friend who makes those around you better people just by being a part of their lives!
