Turkey Creek Trail extension

Here is some news on future improvements for the primary bike commuter route from northeast Johnson County to Downtown KCMO.

Staff at the Mid-America Regional Council are currently working on detailed plans to extend the Turkey Creek trail from Merriam, KS to Rainbow Boulevard and Southwest Boulevard in KCK.  In addition to extending the multi-use trail along the creek, there is a good chance that bike lanes could be added to Merriam Drive and Southwest Boulevard. This would create a great commuter corridor alongside I-35 from 75th Street to the vicinity of Downtown, using both trail and on-street connections.

There is no timeline yet, and it will be up to each individual city to fund and implement their segment of the corridor. But hopefully in a couple of years we will have some high quality facilities along one of the region’s primary bike commute corridors.

Sweet happy day! I’ve been wondering if they were ever going to take that puny 4-mile stretch of path anywhere useful. I’ll be on it once it’s done. Bike lanes on Merriam/Southwest?! Dude.
