KC regional bike/ped funding

The Missouri Bicycle Federation reports that a bill has been introduced in the Missouri House of Representatives to allow the Missouri side of the Kansas City metro area to create a regional funding source for trails and other bicycle/pedestrian intrastructure. Northland Representative Trent Skaggs is sponsoring HB 2572, which would allow voters in Jackson, Clay, and Platte Counties to tax ourselves up to 0.25% on retail purchases.

This bill is very similar to the regional funding system in place in St. Louis. That metro area has a 1/10 of one percent sales tax that funds the Great Rivers Greenways district, a regional system building trails all over the metro area.

The bill is currently in the House of Representatives, so now is a good time to email your representative and let them know that you support HB 2572 for regional bike/ped funding.
