Advocacy Alert – Development Code

On Tuesday there is an important public hearing on KCMO’s new development code, the law that regulates planning, zoning, development redevelopment, etc. At issue is a proposal to include bicycle parking in businesses, offices, and apartment buildings.  This means more than just a U-rack to use while you run in for a cup of coffee. It means a secure place to park your bike, protected from the weather, while you are at work or in your apartment/condo/loft building.

Another big issue is requiring developers to include bicycles when they study the impact that their projects will have on traffic. Unfortunately the real estate developers are objecting to both ideas.  The City Plan Commission will hear testimoy on Tuesday.  Even you don’t want to testify, it would really help just to show up and be a warm body in the room.
