North Troost Trail meeting tonight
Published October 22nd, 2007 in planning, trailsTonight the city will hold a public meeting on a proposed trail along North Troost Avenue, between Englewood and Vivion. This trail would be funded with $250,000 from the TIF project that is building a new strip mall at the northeast corner of Vivion and North Oak.
While new trail development is certainly welcome, these types of sidepaths along city streets can actually more dangerous for bicyclists than on-street facilities like bike lanes. Trails like this really need to be in a separate corridor that minimizes conflicts with driveways, cross streets, etc. Otherwise you essentially have a wide sidewalk with all of the problems that come with bicycling on a sidewalk.
Public Meeting
Monday, October 22, 6:00 p.m.
St. James Lutheran Church
1104 NE Vivion Road, KCMO 64118 (map/directions)
