The turnout at this evening’s memorial ride for Sierra and Larry Gaunt was amazing. The news media is reporting over 650 cyclists. Larry’s son and grandson lead the ride on a tandem. Specials thanks to KCMO, Lee’s Summit, and Grandview police for escorting the ride and for the MS 150 folks for keeping us hydrated.

Update: The cyclist has been identified as Erick Sharda of the local band The Popsicles. He is currently hospitalized at KU Medical Center with serious injuries. Erick’s bandmates are posting updates on his condition on MySpace.

Starts at the Rec Center at Metro Community College Longview Campus.
[ August 15, 2007; 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. ] In memory of Sierra and Larry Gaunt. The ride is a 10 mile loop around Longview Lake, beginning at the recreation center at Longview Community College.
Wednesday evening is a memorial ride in honor of Larry and Sierra Gaunt, the grandfather and granddaughter hit and killed last week on Raytown Road in Grandview. The route is the 10 mile Longview Loop, where the Gaunts were riding when they were killed. The ride will start at 6:30 p.m. at the [...]
