Thursday on KCUR’s Up To Date radio program, host Steve Kraske will interview Tour of Missouri organizers. The show airs at 11:00 a.m. on 89.3 FM or online at www.kcur.org.
September 11th will see the start of the Tour of Missouri race right here in Kansas City. Tour de France winner, Alberto Contador will be just one of the 120 cyclists competing in the inaugural race. Sanctioned by the UCI, the international governing body for cycling, and USA Cycling, the national governing body for cycling, it is ranked as a 2.1 race, second in ranking to only the Tour de Georgia and Amgen Tour of California in North American cycling.
What does all of this mean for Missouri in general and Kansas City in particular? With six days of racing over 600 miles of Missouri real estate, The Tour has the potential to propel both into the national and international spotlights.
Steve Kraske talks with event organizers and supporters about professional bicycling, the logistics involved in staging a race such as this, and if there is a real interest among Missourians for the sport.
