Bad time for glare
Published April 5th, 2007 in General
The Missouri Bicycle Federation’s web site notes that this is a bad time of year for sun glare. Sunrise and sunset is almost exactly east and west right now, which is a problem for cyclists in city’s like KC where streets are laid out in a rigid grid pattern. The safety folks talk a lot about reminding motorists to be more careful, but the advice also applies to cyclists.
Remember that if you are riding into the sun, motorists approaching you from behind will have a hard time seeing you. And of course, if the sun is at your back, motorists coming at you head on will have trouble seeing you. Be sure to light up near dawn and dusk, even if general visibility is good.
