Meet the Candidates

The upcoming election for Mayor and City Council could be pivotal for bike/ped issues. It’s critical that cyclists make an effort to elect bike-friendly candidates. Here are some opportunities to meet the candidates this week. You can also read about the issues.

Monday February 12th – Northland forum
Northland Neighborhoods will host 1st and 2nd District candidates at7:00 p.m. at Northgate Middle School, 4700 NE Parvin Road.

Monday, February 12th – Becky Nace for mayor reception
5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Cigar Box, 1519 Grand Blvd. Becky has been supportive of bike/ped issues on the current council, including the 2002 legislation that created the BikeKC plan.

Tuesday February 13 – John Fairfield for Mayor reception
5:30-7:00 p.m. at 75th Street Brewery. John has been one of the biggest bike/ped advocates on the current City Council, championing the region’s new River Crossing policy and other issues like the Paseo Bridge and Katy Trail.

Thursday, February 15 – Mayoral Forum
The League of Women Voters sponsors one of the biggest mayoral forums atPenn Valley Community College, 7:00 p.m.

Thursday, February 15 – Russ Johnson Fundraiser
Russ is running in the 2nd District (Platte County and Downtown). He has been a great supporter of bicycle and trail projects. As a member of the PIAC committee Russ secured funding for the bike lanes along NW Barry Road and North Congress Avenue, as well as the upcoming City-Wide Trails Plan. The event is 5:00 p.m. at McCown Gordon Construction, 422 Admiral Boulevard, Downtown.

Tuesday February 22 – 4th District Forum
The League of Women Voters forum is at 7:00 p.m. at the Ruiz Library on the Westside, 2017 West Pennway.
