Bikes in Congress
Published January 3rd, 2007 in Advocacy, PoliticsBicycle advocates across the country are hoping for a more bike-friendly Congress in 2007. Rep. Peter De Fazio (D-Oregon) is a former bike mechanic who also just happens to be the new chair of the House Transportation Committee’s Surface Subcommittee.
Missouri and Kansas each have a Representative in the Congressional Bike Caucus - Kenny Hulshof of Columbia from Missouri’s 9th District and Jerry Moran from Kansas’ 1st District. Another likely member is cyclist Nancy Boyda, the new rep from Kansas’ 2nd District and a former regular on the Praire Village group rides. Closer to home, Missouri State Representative Mike Sutherland recently formed at Outdoors Caucus of more than 60 legislatures interested in cycling, hiking, trails, etc.
