If you bike in or through southern Jackson County, here's a chance to talk about bike/ped provisions in the widening of a key east/west corridor between the southeast and southwest suburbs. My suggestion is to ask for on-street accommodations for bike commuters, a multi-use trail on one side for recreational and novice riders, and a regular sidewalk on the other side.

Community Coffee December 12 to Discuss Route 150 Widening Project

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - The last in a series of community coffees to discuss the Route 150 widening project is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, December 12.

The coffee will be at Meadowmere Elementary School, 7010 E 136th Street, Grandview, Missouri. The topics this time will be: Noise, sound walls, landscaping, bike provisions, pedestrian needs, lighting and other amenities.

Residents of Grandview, Lee's Summit and Kansas City who are interested in the widening of Route 150 between Route 71 and Route 291 are invited to learn more and ask questions. This latest in a series of open-house gatherings will bring together community stakeholders to discuss specific project issues with MoDOT and the design team.

An eight-mile section of Route 150 is scheduled for widening to four lanes between Route 71 and Route 291. The project is expected to begin in 2008 and be completed by 2010. It will be funded through money made available by the passage of Amendment 3 to accelerate the completion of the state's priority highway projects.
