Public Meeting on Bike Parking Regulations
Published December 3rd, 2006 in Advocacy, events, planning
The city of Kansas City, Missouri is re-writing all of our planning, zoning, and parking laws - including a brand new section of requirements for bicycle parking. Simply put, virtually all businesses multi-family dwellings would be required to provide parking for at least two bicycles. This would be a huge step forward for bicycling in KC with bike racks popping up in all parts of the city. It's a good plan from the same consultant that wrote Chicago's bike parking laws.
But, with things like these there is always the risk that developers and other folks behind the scenes will want to water down the proposal and get themselves some nice big loopholes. That's what happened to BikeKC and why we have so few bike routes in the city. So, it's important for bicyclists to voice their support for this plan. Please stop by one of the two public meetings this week to check out the the plan.
