Bicyclist killed in Lee’s Summit

KMBC-TV 9 reports that a 23 year-old Lee's Summit woman has been struck and killed by a semi truck at the QuikTrip at Hwys 150 and 291 in the southern section of that suburb. The cyclist was travelling on Hwy 150 when a tanker truck bound for the gas station turned into her and trapped her under the truck. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. No other details are available while the LSPD reconstructs the crash scene.

On a related note, MoDOT is currently planning bicycle accomodations in an expansion of this very stretch of Hwy 150. Tonight's death is further proof that improvements can't come soon enough.

This is terrible news that another cyclist has died, and eerily similar to the cement tracuk accident downtown. My condolences to the family.

This is awful. I ride 150 all the time and know that spot well.

I can’t remember which news station I saw this on last night, but they made it sound like she fell off her bike or something and then was hit by the truck. It’s probably too early to know everything yet. The Star has this so far.

“Lee’s Summit police have identified a woman who was killed when a tractor trailer struck her as she was riding a bike.

“Audrey K. Lindvall, 23, of Lee’s Summit, was riding north on Southwest Market Street near a QuikTrip when the accident occurred. The tractor trailer was turning right into the QuikTrip just after 8 p.m.

“According to police, Lindvall struck a curb and was thrown into the path of the truck. She was struck by the wheels of the trailer and died at the scene.

“The incident is still under investigation.”
