Northland Chamber opposes Paseo bike/ped
Published June 23rd, 2006 in Advocacy, Bridges, Politics, planning
The Northland Chamber of Commerce just came out with a position statement opposing a bicycle/pedestrian facility on the new Paseo Bridge replacement. That group is very concerned about creating an iconic bridge, and is worried that a bike/ped path would jeopardize the project's budget. They do support accommodation on the Heart of America Bridge, but not with any of the Paseo money.

I know whos interest they are representing, but it’s still frustraiting to see this kind of publicity. Although, I enjoyed the way the Star phrased it (”They’re against cyclists and hate walkers!”).
Form follows function. We’re building a bridge to get across a river, not as a monument to ourselves. We need to focus on that part first.
